XNO® is the new standard for high-power anode materials

A decade of research started at the University of Cambridge produced a battery anode technology that does what no incumbent chemistry can: fast charging, extreme cycle life, wide temperature operation, and the highest safety. Simultaneously, without compromise.

MATERIALS SCIENCE

XNO® is the ultimate niobium anode

XNO® is a niobium-based active material powder, replacing graphite or LTO on the anode.

It relies on Echion's proprietary Wadsley-Roth crystal structures, engineered for optimum performance in the most demanding duty cycles.  Its distinctive architecture creates an exceptionally stable network of lithium-ion diffusion pathways, combined with near-zero lattice strain, minimal electrolyte degradation, and no lithium plating.

XNO® is integrated into a Li-ion cell as a drop-in anode active material, with no change to coating processes, other components, or cell architecture. For the full materials science, including crystal structure, electrochemistry, and physicochemical characterisation, read the XNO® Whitepaper.

FOR CELL MANUFACTURERS

Available now and
easy to adopt

XNO® integrates onto standard Li-ion electrode lines. No new equipment, no new processes. Compatible with NMP, aqueous, and dry electrode preparation, and with all standard cathode chemistries including NMC, LFP, NCA, and LNMO.

For cell manufacturers currently producing LTO-based industrial cells, XNO® is a direct chemistry upgrade: comparable cycle life and safety profile, at substantially higher energy density, on the same equipment.

Commercial supply: XNO® powder has been produced at industrial scale since 2025 in the 2,000 tonnes per year Araxa plant (Brazil). This is equivalent to 1 GWh of cells annually. Echion also offers qualified second sources for supply security. We supply globally and are experienced in meeting the requirements of volume production

BENCHMARKED ACROSS THE METRICS THAT MATTER

How XNO® compares

The right battery depends on the duty cycle. For high-power, high-cycle industrial applications, six metrics matter together: cycle life, continuous charge rate, lifetime cost-effectiveness, energy density, discharge power density, and safety.

A commercially-available 600V/28kWh/300kW pack is benchmarked here against nearest leading incumbent LTO and LFP packs across all six.
