MARITIME

Marine batteries built to last – and built for the cold

Marine applications demand long service lives, the highest safety, and reliable operation in extreme climates. XNO® delivers all three at higher energy density and lower cost than LTO.

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge: decades of demanding operation

Marine vessels operate for decades in demanding conditions — salt air, vibration, wide temperature ranges, and duty cycles that test conventional batteries hard. Safety standards are among the most stringent of any application: a thermal event on a vessel at sea is a critical failure mode. And energy density matters acutely where weight and space directly affect displacement and fuel consumption.

LTO has been the default chemistry for high-power marine applications. XNO® retains all of LTO's advantages — fast charging, long cycle life, wide temperature operation, EUCAR Level 3 safety — while delivering approximately 50% more energy density. A smaller, lighter installation, or greater range for the same footprint, at comparable or lower cost.

WHY XNO®

Applications where XNO® excels

1.
Opportunity-charging electric ferries

XNO®'s fast charge capability makes rapid top-up during passenger boarding practical without cycle degradation — enabling a meaningfully smaller installation than LTO incumbents. Approximately 50% higher energy density at comparable or lower cost.

2.
Hybrid OSVs and tugs

OSVs and tugs operate highly transient, power-heavy duty cycles that age energy-optimised chemistries rapidly. XNO® matches LTO on power and safety while reducing vessel displacement and improving operational economics.

3.
Cold-weather Arctic and sub-Arctic

Full charge and discharge capability at −30°C without active pre-heating is a particular advantage for Arctic and sub-Arctic operations where cold-weather reliability is a hard operational requirement.

PERFORMANCE

The numbers that matter

~50% vs LTO

Approximately 50% more energy dense than LTO — smaller installation for the same range

−30°C to +60°C

Full capability in Arctic conditions; no pre-heating required

>50,000 cycles

Covers the full operating life of a marine vessel without mid-life replacement

EUCAR Level 3

No thermal runaway — suited to the most safety-critical marine environments
